Today, I set out with a camera loaded with film from a century-old European manufacturer, aiming to capture the cool tones of the city while uncovering the hidden warmth within.
Morning Streets
The morning streets were still waking up. The blue-gray sky pressed down on the city, making the pedestrians move briskly. The steel and concrete buildings looked stern and unyielding. Through the cool-toned film, this harsh urban feel was amplified. I pointed the lens at the billboard lights; their brightness seemed even more piercing against the cold backdrop, as if defying the city’s chill.
Afternoon in the Park
By midday, sunlight streamed into the park, casting deeper shadows. The film’s cool base made the red autumn leaves and yellow sunlight stand out more vividly. At this moment, the warmth of the city seemed to emerge. I captured an elderly man sitting on a bench, surrounded by red leaves. In this cool-toned world, he appeared particularly warm, almost like one of the few people with genuine warmth in this city.
Evening Street Lights
As night fell, neon and street lights illuminated the streets. With ISO 400, I could still capture every subtle shift in light. The city at this time seemed to reveal its true essence; the cool tones remained, but the flickering reds and yellows of neon lights added a touch of warmth to the indifferent city. People moved through the light, and between light and shadow, the city’s cold and warmth intertwined.
This is today’s photography diary. In this city filled with cool tones, I sought out the small bits of warmth, with each photograph telling its own story.
